The Word Became Flesh

Both AUT and OCF Impact Groups are studying John at the mo, both on John 1. I did six separate studies on it last week and I'm already on three this week! If there are any passages I could read that many times in a week it is John 1! There is so much in it and it has been an absolute joy to grapple with this stuff with the students. We have talked about what it means to be children of God, that from the fulness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. The thing which hit me most was from v18 - "No-one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known." The Word became flesh! That is absolutely amazing. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. And it is through this that we can know God.

I have also been reading the account of Howard Guinness' missionary journeys in his 'Journey Among Students'. He was the guy who established the student movements here in NZ, as well as in Canada and Australia. It truly is amazing stuff. It is a really honest account of the God's triumphs he was part of, his own failings and temptations and his sense of purpose and mission in reaching students on campuses across the world.
He finished with a story about a time when he was to speak at a campus in NZ. He talks of feeling tired and drained sitting in the meeting waiting to speak, that he was struggling to feel the presence of God. He committed the meeting to the Lord and said that he believed that God what use it whatever his own feelings were. He then tells of a student leader who approached him after he had spoken:

' "Yesterday," he said, "when you came onto the platform prior to the address I saw that you possessed something I wanted. When you spoke I knew what it was. Now I am a Christian, thank God."
The Word had again become flesh.'
